If parents were planning a trip to the beach this weekend, or a family picnic, think about including saving some cash for school supplies. The annual Ohio tax-free weekend for school supplies and clothing is Friday through Sunday, Aug. 5-7, around the Buckeye State.
For Ottawa County folks, that generally means not having to pay the 7% sales tax in most of the county.
For school supplies, the tax exemption includes school supplies or school instructional material priced at $20 or less. Clothing for school children purchased this weekend priced at $75 or less is also included.
Ohio considers all human wearing apparel suitable for general use as eligible for the sales tax break. The list is a long one, from shirts and blouses and sweaters and pants to rainwear, coats and jackets and neckties and scarves. Even underwear and diapers are on the exempt list.
