Lydia Roberts and Liam Coppeler are collecting personal care items for residents at Ruth Ann’s House and Riverview Health Care Campus as their confirmation class project at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Clinton.
Port Clinton students in St. John Lutheran Church’s confirmation class this fall are working to put together 100 personal care kits for residents at Ruth Ann’s House and Riverview Health Care Campus as their confirmation class project.
Liam Coppeler and Lydia Roberts are gathering masks and toiletries for residents of Ruth Ann’s House, a safe haven for victims of domestic violence and their kids, and Riverview, Ottawa County’s nursing home in Oak Harbor. Items and monetary donations can be dropped off at St. John Lutheran Church, 207 Adams St., Port Clinton, through Sunday, Oct. 18. Monetary donations will be used to buy the packaging for the kits and any items still needed.
Lydia and Liam will put the items into kits that they will give to the 82 residents of Riverview and the 10 residents at Ruth Ann’s House. Extra kits will be given to the local sober living houses.
“We figured that 100 would just be a nice round number,” Lydia said.
Needed items are toothbrushes, toothpaste, tissues, masks, shaving cream, deodorant, full-size shampoo and toiletries.
Lydia, 13, and Liam, 11, attend Port Clinton Middle School. They have participated in St. John Lutheran’s confirmation class for two years and are completing this service project as the final part of the class. They will be confirmed on Sunday, Oct. 25.
This is the first project of this nature they have done. Liam called Riverview to learn of its needs for the kits, and Lydia called Ruth Ann’s House.
“We’re thinking about everyone who is going to use all of this stuff we collect and put together and how it’s going to be really good for them to have all the stuff they can use,” Lydia said.
Liam is the son of Deadre and Pete Coppeler of Port Clinton. His confirmation sponsor is Mike Crosser. Lydia is the daughter of Karen and Steve Roberts of Catawba Island. Her confirmation sponsor is Kathy Walls.
