Summer Library Challenge, Tails and Tales and M.O.M. events in spotlight

The Summer Library Challenge, Tails and Tales, continues this month hosted by the Ida Rupp Library. There are more events at Meals on Madison in downtown Port Clinton, as well as more crafts, scavenger hunts, and lots of fun!

The July calendar for all locations of the Ida Rupp Public Library includes the following. In case of rain at outdoor events, join us in our community room at the library.

THURSDAY, JULY 1

Teen Independence Day Celebration, Meals on Madison, Downtown Port Clinton; 1-2 p.m.; Teens in grades 6-12. Celebrate Independence Day with crafts and snacks. In case of rain, join us in our community room at the library.

Summer Activity Bags, Ida Rupp Public Library, Port Clinton; Children. Pick up a kit at the library with all the supplies you need for summer fun! (Kits will be available while supplies last.)

Port Clinton Crossword Challenge, Ida Rupp Public Library, Port Clinton. Pick up your puzzle page and your first clue at the Ida Rupp Public Library this month! Each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday we will release a new clue. Find them at the library and on our Facebook page. Put it all together and return your completed crossword to the library by July 31. A grand prize winner will receive a gift card.

Find the Tails Scavenger Hunt, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; All ages. Hidden throughout the library are different animal tails.  Use the checklist to find them all by July 31. Turn in your checklist for a chance to win a gift card! One entry per person, please!

TUESDAY, JULY 6

Chalk Drawing Fun for the Whole Family, Ida Rupp Public Library; All ages. Pick up chalk, stencils, and other materials to make your own chalk art – whether on paper or on your sidewalk at home. Kits for different ages can be picked up at the library while supplies last.

Weekly Craft: Pet Rocks, Erie Islands Library; All ages. Stop by the library to pick up your craft kit today while supplies last. Send us a picture of your painted rock and we will post them on our Facebook page.

Movie Night, Erie Islands Library; All ages. Come to the library and check out one of our ‘Let’s Stay In’ movie night bundles.  We will provide a movie – “Jumanji” – plus a bag of popcorn, all the props and a couple munchies for up to four moviegoers to make your time together entertaining.

Writer’s Group, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 6-8 p.m. Adults. Do you wish you knew more about what steps to take next with your writing? Need someone to critique your work? Our resident writing guru, Brenda Haas, hosts this monthly meeting. All writers welcome.

Grab & Go Craft Kit – Party Animals, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; All ages. It’s Party Animal week at the library! Stop in to pick up a Grab & Go Craft Kit for families and you’ll get everything you need to make your own party while supplies last.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 7

Story Time with Miss Kristen, Meals on Madison, Downtown Port Clinton; 10-11 a.m. Children. Join Miss Kristen at M.O.M. for a fun story time all about art.

Trivia at Rocky Point Winery, hosted by Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 6:30 – 8 p.m.; Adults. Join us for live trivia with Erin at Rocky Point Winery.  Build your team of up to eight participants to win bragging rights and something special from Rocky Point Winery.  Since there are no reservations, arrive early for the best chance of having a place for your team.

THURSDAY, JULY 8

Teen Painting Event, Meals on Madison, Downtown Port Clinton; 1-2 p.m. Teens in grades 6-12. Teens are invited to use a marbling technique to paint a unique rock. In case of rain, join us in our community room at the library.

Giant Lawn Games, Ida Rupp Public Library; All ages. Play some of our giant lawn games. Games will be available outside in our Friends Plaza on Madison Street on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays in June and July, during the Art Walk between 3 pm and 8 pm.

Pulitzer Prize Book Club, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 4-5 p.m. Adults. Have you ever read a Pulitzer Prize winning book?  Now is your chance to read one and discuss it with a lively group!  This month the group will discuss the winner from 1988, Beloved by Toni Morrison.

FRIDAY, JULY 9

Cowtoonin’ with Jeff Nicholas, Meals on Madison, Downtown Port Clinton; 2-3 p.m. Children. Enjoy fun “draw-along” animal characters and their many wild tales (and tails)! Jeff combines step-by-step drawing lessons for characters with original stories that make children and adults laugh out loud! In case of rain, join us in our community room at the library.

SATURDAY, JULY 10

Downtown Marblehead Walking Tour, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 9:30 – 11 a.m.; Adults. Are you interested in learning more about the beginnings of Marblehead?  Come join us for a walking tour full of interesting facts and stories right down Main Street.  This tour is approximately 1.5 miles and takes about an hour.  The terrain covered includes sidewalks and paved streets.   Group size is limited to 9 and registration is required.

MONDAY, JULY 12

Coloring Page Sun Catchers Ida Rupp Public Library, Port Clinton; All ages. Pick up a free kit to make your own sun catcher with a coloring page. Limit one per family while supplies last!

Story Time on the Island, hosted by Erie Islands Library; 11 a.m. to noon. Children. Join Librarian Karen Wilhelm for a reading of the fairy tale “The Three Bears.”  This event will take place on the steps of the school.

Weekly Craft: Sew your Own Woodland Animals, Erie Islands Library; All ages. Bring an animal to life. Kit includes two felt precut shapes, yarn, a needle, stuffing and stickers. Just thread the needle with the yarn, sew the shapes together. Fill it with stuffing and then sew to close it up. Add the stickers to create your own unique animal. Limited quantity while supplies last.

Grab & Go Craft Kit for Kids – Zoo Animal, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; Children. It’s Zoo Animal Week at the library!  Stop in and pick up this week’s Grab and Go craft kit containing everything you need to make your own cardboard tube animal. Available while supplies last.

Grab & Go Craft Kit for Adults – Magazine Strip Art, Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; Adults. This week’s Grab and Go craft kit for adults has everything you need to make your own art from magazines.  Stop in the library to pick up your kit while supplies last.

Books & Brews Book Club, Jamestown Tavern patio hosted by Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library; 6:30 – 8 p.m. Adults. Before our meeting, pick a book that has been on your “To-Read” list for a long time, then read it.

TUESDAY, JULY 13

Mini Aquarium Project, Meals on Madison, Downtown Port Clinton; 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.; Adults. Get your creativity going with a nice little art project.  Meet at M.O.M. to make a mini mason jar aquarium you can display at your home. All supplies provided (excluding the fish), while supplies last.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 14

Story Time with Miss Kristen, Meals on Madison, Downtown Port Clinton; 10-11 a.m. Children. Join Miss Kristen at M.O.M. for some fishy stories and a cool sand art craft.
