Shores & Islands Ohio, the destination marketing organization for Ottawa and Erie counties, has launched its eighth webcam, featuring amazing Lake Erie views online from the Marblehead Lighthouse at the east end of the Marblehead Peninsula.
The all-new Marblehead Lighthouse cam is live now, with views of the lighthouse and pointing northeast towards Lake Erie, perfect for capturing the sunrise each morning. The webcam page viewable at SHORESandISLANDS.com, is the most popular page on the site, visited over 640,000 times in 2022.
The much-loved webcams account for more than 20% of website traffic and visitors to the page spend upwards of 5 minutes taking in the views at each visit.
Other locations where Shores & Islands Ohio operate webcams include downtown Sandusky (mounted on the Sandusky State Theatre), Catawba Island (mounted at the Catawba Island Club), the Huron Pier, Lakeside Chautauqua (mounted on the historic Hotel Lakeside), Put-in-Bay Harbor (facing Perry’s Victory & International Peace Memorial), Port Clinton City Beach, and Vermilion’s Main Street Beach.
Shores & Islands Ohio pays for the webcams and the monthly maintenance fee with streaming partner Pixelcaster. The host locations provide WIFI service and spectacular views. The cameras are set so that online visitors can see views of Lake Erie from a variety of coastal communities across the destination. When a visitor clicks on a particular webcam for a live view, it directs them to an informational page about the community which hosts the camera and opens up the camera view to a larger screen.
Many thanks to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Marblehead Lighthouse Historical Society for helping make this new camera possible. A camera at the Marblehead Lighthouse has been highly requested by our online guests.
