Congratulations to Head Coach Keith Mora and the 2020 Danbury Lakers football team. They finished their season 8-0 and are Champions of the Northern 8 Conference. It was the first undefeated season in Laker football history and their best season in nearly 40 years! It was also the first season of 8-man football, designed so that smaller schools could continue to play football.
Felicia Windnagel of Port Clinton was chosen from among 116 entries who found Wylie hiding in the ad for the Resort at Erie Landing on Page 6B in last week’s Beacon. So, Felicia wins our weekly $25 gas card graciously donated by the Friendship Stores. Each week we hide Wylie Walleye in an ad and our readers, when one of them finds him, can either bring in a contest entry cut out of the paper or log onto our website … www.thebeacon.net … and let us know where he is, thus entering, and possibly winning our weekly contest.
The summer is officially over in Port Clinton when the street crews deactivate the traffic light on Perry Street at Lakeview Park. That happens this Sunday, Nov. 1 at 7 a.m. The signal allowed people to safely cross the busy road to enjoy the Lake Erie beach all summer long.
The flu season has arrived, and the Ottawa County Department of Health reminds seniors the best way to protect against flu and its potentially serious complications is with a flu vaccine. Adult flu shots are being given in The Pharmacy at Magruder this year. The Pharmacy is located at the end of the same building as Urgent Care and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. No appointment is required.
The Pharmacy can bill insurances, so bring your card. People 65 years and older are at high risk of developing serious complications from flu, which is especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic. Flu vaccines are updated each season to keep up with changing viruses.
