You haven’t voted yet? Get moving! You don’t have to wait until Election Day, though many will still vote at one of the 18 assigned local precincts around the Ottawa County on Tuesday, Nov. 3 between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. If you had requested an absentee ballot, you can return the ballot to the Ottawa County Board of Elections drop box in Oak Harbor. It is available 24/7, monitored and secure. In-person absentee voting continues at the Board of Elections, where the voting equipment is smoothly working. Vote on Oct. 29-30 from 8 a.m.-7 p.m.; Oct. 31 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; Nov. 1 from 1-5 p.m.; and Nov. 2 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Congratulations to Head Coach Keith Mora and the 2020 Danbury Lakers football team. They finished their season 8-0 and are Champions of the Northern 8 Conference. It was the first undefeated season in Laker football history and their best season in nearly 40 years! It was also the first season of 8-man football, designed so that smaller schools could continue to play football.

Felicia Windnagel of Port Clinton was chosen from among 116 entries who found Wylie hiding in the ad for the Resort at Erie Landing on Page 6B in last week’s Beacon. So, Felicia wins our weekly $25 gas card graciously donated by the Friendship Stores. Each week we hide Wylie Walleye in an ad and our readers, when one of them finds him, can either bring in a contest entry cut out of the paper or log onto our website … … and let us know where he is, thus entering, and possibly winning our weekly contest.

The summer is officially over in Port Clinton when the street crews deactivate the traffic light on Perry Street at Lakeview Park. That happens this Sunday, Nov. 1 at 7 a.m. The signal allowed people to safely cross the busy road to enjoy the Lake Erie beach all summer long.

The flu season has arrived, and the Ottawa County Department of Health reminds seniors the best way to protect against flu and its potentially serious complications is with a flu vaccine. Adult flu shots are being given in The Pharmacy at Magruder this year. The Pharmacy is located at the end of the same building as Urgent Care and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. No appointment is required.

The Pharmacy can bill insurances, so bring your card. People 65 years and older are at high risk of developing serious complications from flu, which is especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic. Flu vaccines are updated each season to keep up with changing viruses.

The Musical Arts Series in Port Clinton Coordinating Committee regrets announcing postponement of its 2020-2021 season due to COVID-19. The committee will reevaluate the situation in the Spring of 2021 with hopes that they can at least have outdoor concerts when the weather becomes warmer. Tickets for the 2020 season will be honored when concerts resume.

In honor of Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will offer U.S. military, both active duty and veterans, a 30% discount off one camping, getaway rental, state-operated cabin, or resort lodge stay during November. Great Ohio Lodges will also offer the 30% discount throughout November on lodge rooms at Maumee Bay State Park, as well as Burr Oak, Deer Creek, Hueston Woods, Mohican, Punderson, Salt Fork and Shawnee lodges. To check availability or make a reservation, visit or call the lodge directly to make a reservation.

Otterbein Senior Life Marblehead is proud to introduce their new head Chef, Patrick Young.
