Time to order native trees for spring plantings

Mar 23, 2022 | Ottawa Outdoors | 0 comments

An easy way to plant quality native trees and shrubs is through the Ottawa Soil & Water Conservation District, which is taking orders for a wide variety of plants for spring delivery.

You can order and pay online or download a tree order form by visiting www.ottawaswcd.com. You can also call 419-898-1595 to have a form mailed to you. Deadline for ordering is March 31. Supplies are limited, so order soon!

Evergreen varieties are sold in packets of 10 and include: Colorado Blue Spruce, and Norway Spruce. This year we will again offer the “Fast Growing” Green Rocket Cedars that will be sold individually. These Cedars will grow up to 3 feet per year, are deer resistant, have a strong root system, and no major insect problems. They make a great windbreak or privacy screen.

We are excited to also offer the following varieties: Shellbark Hickory, Bald Cypress, Black Gum, Tulip Poplar, Sycamore, Bur Oak, Skyrise, Red Oak, White Oak, Sugar Maple, and Red Maple.

Back by popular demand are the Wildlife Tree Pack, Pollinator Tree Pack, and a Nut Tree Pack which includes five different types of native trees to produce the perfect native habitat.

Prices range from $10 to $35. Money raised from the program goes to support District Education Programs throughout the year.
