The Port Clinton Redskins boys varsity basketball team lost to the Van Buren Black Knights 58-40 on Monday, Jan. 13, in a home nonconference game. Port Clinton kept the score close, and they trailed by nine points at halftime. Port Clinton continued to close in on Van Buren’s lead into the third quarter, trailing by only four points. Van Buren would pull away from Port Clinton in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 17-7. Leading the Port Clinton scoring was Zack Speer with 14 points.

The Port Clinton Redskins were on the road Friday, Jan. 17, to play the Huron Tigers in a Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division contest. It was close, but Port Clinton fell short 39-32 as Huron continues their winning streak which is now four games in a row. Huron’s record is now 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the Sandusky Bay-Bay Division. Port Clinton is now 5-8 overall and 2-3 in conference games. Port Clinton was able to pull within two points thanks to Grayson Jones who made it 21-19 early in the fourth quarter. Huron pulled away as the Tigers scored 18 points in the fourth quarter. Leading Port Clinton was Aiden Finn with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Port Clinton Lady Red are 10-6 overall and 2-5 in the Sandusky Bay-Bay Conference, currently in fourth place. The Margaretta Polar Bears won in a Sandusky Bay-Bay Conference game against the visiting Port Clinton 62-25 on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Margaretta held the early lead 15-3. For Port Clinton, Olivia Spencer closed the gap with a three-pointer to make it 15-10. In the second quarter, Margaretta pulled away from Port Clinton, leading by 12 points. Olivia Emerson for Port Clinton hit a triple which helped Port Clinton narrow the Margaretta lead to a 22-17 score.

Margaretta shifted into high gear, leading 34-19 at halftime. In the third quarter, Margaretta increased their lead to 44-19, and at the end of the third quarter the score was 54-23. Port Clinton was hampered by turnovers, 24 of them for the game. For Port Clinton, Thea Wybensinger led the scoring with 10 points.
