Vanda has completed her journey here on Earth and is now in the arms of her Lord. She was born to Alex and Myrtle Wickline in Port Clinton, Ohio. Being the daughter of a military man, they moved from Port Clinton during WWII but returned when she was around 10 years old and has resided in the area for the past 75 years. She graduated with the great Class of 1958. Shortly after graduation, she married Keith Wahlers and moved to Catawba Island, where they raised three children. She was a stay-at-home mom. She was active in all her children’s activities—Scout Leader, field trip chaperone, baseball team score keeper, dance chaperone, band bus chaperone and many, many other activities. She instilled in her children a strong sense of right and wrong, a can-do attitude and the everlasting love of pets.
Once her children got older, mom worked at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She then worked with her daughter, Treva, at her dog grooming business for many years. In the early 2000’s, she began a long career of over 20 years volunteering at Magruder Hospital. She worked in many areas in the hospital and made many friends. She was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of Magruder Hospital. She functioned as the treasurer for the Auxiliary for years, and just recently resigned from that position. She has been an active member of Port Clinton Bible Church and helped with the many out-reach ministries of the church.
Mom was a lymphoma cancer survivor—she battled fiercely and won. Her battle with peripheral artery disease and CHF was too big a battle to conquer. She was valiant in her efforts. Her determination and strength in the face of pain was remarkable.
Vanda was predeceased by her husband Keith and her son Corey Wahlers. Her siblings—Hazelton (Bud) Carstens, Virgie Bare, Anna Davis, Artie McFarlane, and Robert Wickline. Her son-in-law, Mark Burkholder, and her parents Alex and Myrtle. And, her many fur babies, that will take awhile to collect at the Rainbow Bridge.
She leaves to cherish her memory—her daughters, Renee’ (David) Haugh, Treva Burkholder (John Boling). Grandchildren—Kristen (Myles) Mahlie, Brian (Hanna) Haugh, Andrew Haugh, step grandchild Mark (Jamie) Burkholder Jr. Great Grandchildren—Madelyn, Lowan, Evelyn and step-great grandchildren—Elijah, Ian and Jaelyn, and many nieces & nephews. Her many Magruder Hospital friends, her Port Clinton Bible Church friends, and her friends of PC.
Mom also leaves her newest furry companion Puddin, who helped her in her many days of illness and pain.
Soar high with the Angels mom. Grab dad and Corey and live a life without pain, you deserve it. We will all miss you.
