Kevin Gibbons of the Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department was sworn in as the township’s new fire chief recently.

Kevin Gibbons, a 23-year veteran of the Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department, was sworn in as its new chief recently. Gibbons has replaced Kevin Wylie, who stepped down at the end of December.

Wylie will continue to serve the fire department, as do other former chiefs Dan Barlow and John Gangway.

Gibbons joined the department in 1997, and has served in many positions, ranging from fireman to engineer, rescue diver and fire captain. With a wealth of hands-on mechanical knowledge, Chief Gibbons has both overseen and performed maintenance of fire equipment and is familiar with all aspects of the department.
