Local veterans are invited to attend a celebration of the US Marine Corps’ 248th birthday at The MacStack Tavern on Friday, Nov. 10 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A cake-cutting ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. The event is hosted by MacStack owner, Army veteran Julian Helsper.
“I’m inviting all veterans. I don’t care what branch you served in. Just show up,” said U.S. Marine Mike Yegerlehner, a.k.a “Santa,” who is helping to organize the event.
The U.S. Marine Corps has been defending American freedoms since 1775.
“It was founded in a tavern when a bunch of misfits said, ‘Let’s go fight the British,’” Yegerlehner said.
Marine Corps birthday celebrations are normally formal events filled with soldiers in dress blues, but not the Port Clinton event.
“This is a casual event. It’s all about the Marine Corps and camaraderie,” Yegerlehner said.
The MacStack Tavern is located at 4046 E Harbor Rd. in Port Clinton.
