Every summer, the Port Clinton Lake Erie shoreline draws thousands of people to Waterworks Park to watch the sun disappear beneath the horizon. On April 8, visitors will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch the sun disappear in the sky.

The Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce will host The Park Goes Dark, a total solar eclipse watch party at Waterworks Park on April 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature a DJ and three food trucks, including Xtreme Cuisine Food Truck, a local favorite which is owned by Bistro 163 General Manager Babs Kucik. Kucik and the Bistro’s Chef, Dan Snyder, will serve beef brisket, shredded chicken, hot dogs, loaded nachos, ice cream, milkshakes and Cosmic Brownie Hot Fudge Sundaes. Big Mealz on Wheelz, will offer a variety of foods, including chicken strips, burgers, nachos and its famous barbeque, including ribs, chicken, polish sausage and pulled pork.

Solar eclipse glasses will be available to purchase at the event.

“It will be very unique because it’s such an open area by the lake,” said Chamber Administrative Assistant Paige Cuevas. “People will be able to see the eclipse pretty well.”
