Some businesses and organizations call them bragging rights. Others believe it is a confirmation that they’re doing things right in winning a Best of the Best Award because of their business acumen and outstanding relationships with customers.
Publisher John Schaffner and The Beacon staff are thrilled to hand out the Best of the Best Awards every year, and not just as a reward for success — and an ability to attract lots of votes. The awards are an affirmation that Port Clinton, Ottawa County and the villages and townships are vibrant, growing and creating an atmosphere and environment that has been attracting surprising numbers of businesses and residents in recent years.
The economy around Ottawa County is prospering. As we watch the Village of Oak Harbor and the City of Port Clinton work hard to improve their infrastructures, we’re proud of the Music on Madison Stage and its entertainment values, and Ron Miller’s heart-warming tune of success, “Port Clinton’s Calling Me!”
The new businesses and organizations coming to our area certainly help economically, and the sunshine from charitable organizations that is so obvious, led by the pay-it-foward restaurant, Bistro 163.
The Best Non-Profit Category was inundated with worthy recipients in 2022, including Portage Resale Center, The Salvation Army and the up-and-coming Greater Port Clinton Art Council. All are wonderful and giving organizations.
But the long-time regulars here need to be commended for their ability to stay on top of the Best of the Best Awards list, with seven winners taking home their eighth straight Best of the Best Award. Those so successful were: East Harbor State Park for the best Beach; Sloopy’s for the Best Pizza; Salon 53 for the Best Spa; Alex Morgan Johnson for the Best Real Estate Agent; Huntington Bank for the Best Bank; Ala Carte Cafe for the Best Breakfast; and Tish McCartney for Best Insurance Agent.
We praise seven-time winners Slater’s Food & Spirits for the Best Burger; Brands Marina for Best Boat Service and Marina; and The Walleye Festival for the Best Festival or Event.
There was little doubt this year’s Most Community Minded Individual for his Best of the Best Award was the tireless Mayor Mike Snider of Port Clinton. Snider has done so much in such a short time to sell the sweetness of a city of just 6,000, and did it with lots of help from his administration and workers.
Congratulations to all!
