PORT CLINTON – On Friday, July 25, a group of musicians will take over downtown Port Clinton and turn it into one of the most entertaining nights of music of the summer. First, AcoustiZoomies, featuring five members, will start the night off as RiverFront Live’s band of the week at 6 p.m. At 8 p.m., the full seven-member Zoomies band will perform.

AcoustiZoomies features Tony Demko on guitar, keyboards and vocals; Amy Byrd on vocals; Mike Hackney on guitar and vocals; Ross Mitchell on percussion; and Rob Blank on bass. The band will play favorites from hitmakers like the Eagles, Van Morrison and Miley Cyrus.

“We do a little bit of pop, country and rock,” Demko said.

Then the stage will come alive when Tom Sebold on drums and Phil Quidort on horn join the group and The Zoomies takes over. The Zoomies play disco, funk, pop, hip hop, R&B and a little rock and country.

“We’re a show band. We don’t just play music. We perform,” Demko said. “We dress in disco clothes, and we put on a show. We have specific dance moves and a lot of medleys.”

The Zoomies have a mission: get people up and dancing.

“We want to entertain people – that’s our goal,” Demko said. “It’s a lot of fun. We have a great time playing and getting the crowd involved. We get people up and dancing.”

The band has a word for a really good dance song – a banger.

“Every song is a banger,” Demko said. “Every set is a little concert in itself. I pay a lot of attention to the setlist. I make sure one song flows into another.”

The musicians that make up AcoustiZoomies and Zoomies bring years of experienced talent to the stage.

“It’s nice. We have three different singers, which gives us a chance to do different songs,” Demko said. “Versatility is the word I would use to describe both bands. We have a lot of people who can do a lot of things.”
