Mike Paolantonio was awarded the Legacy Club Trophy in the 44th annual Stouffer Cup golf tournament on July 20 at the Catawba Island Club (CIC). It was the third time Paolantonio won the award since its inception 17 years ago.
The overall champions of the annual tournament each year are deemed the official tournament winners and awarded the Stouffer Cup for finishing with the lowest net score.
As a supporting award each year, the Legacy Club winner is calculated on a gross score/age formula. With a gross score of 80, the now 80-year-young Paolantonio “shot his age,” as the CIC senior golfers like to say.
The Legacy Club gross score/age concept was created by Dave and Mary Caracci in honor of Dave’s late father, San Jack Caracci, who loved golfing at the CIC but disliked competing against handicaps. The Legacy Club is awarded every year in honor of CIC fathers who’ve loved golfing at the club. The trophy and names of all past winners can be viewed hanging in the CIC Proshop.
