Port Clinton High School graduates will have their Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, June 27 at True-Lay Stadium in Port Clinton.

Port Clinton High School Principal Gary Steyer and lots of helpers gave the Class of 2020 a memorable sendoff this week. About 140 posters featuring the individual graduates lined Perry Street after several teachers and staff helped to place the signs along the roadway. Slate Kessler of Printing Concepts, and the father of graduate Elene Kessler, the class president, printed the posters. Helping Steyer to place the signs were School Resource Officer Rich Vance, Assistant Principal Anthony Panfalone, STEM Teacher Bobby Good, Spanish Teacher Julie St. Leger, Guidance Counselor Heidi Steyer, and Resource Intervention Specialist Diane Rosiar.

Port Clinton High School’s 2020 graduates will have their Commencement Ceremony take place at True-Lay Stadium on Saturday, June 27. Working with Principal Gary Steyer, the Ottawa County Health Department and school administration, the school district has developed a plan that will follow strict social distancing guidelines.

Due to Ohio Department of Health precautions because of the COVID-19 pandemic, guests will be limited for each graduate. The ceremony will be live-streamed on WPCR Radio to allow the community to enjoy the graduation ceremony at www.portclintonradio.com, and Port Clinton City School District Facebook Page www.facebook.com/portclintonschools beginning at 10 a.m.

“After talking with a group of seniors earlier this spring, we decided to postpone the May 30 ceremony with the hope of having a more traditional ceremony at the stadium,” said Steyer. “While we are taking great care in ensuring our ceremony will follow all social distancing guidelines, our goal is this year’s commencement will be the same special ritual and proper celebration of the Port Clinton High School Class of 2020.”

The full commencement ceremony plan and guidelines can be found at www.pccsd.net under the news section or bulletin board. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 28.
